3. How Do I Get My USF Student I.D. Card?

I.D. Cards for the 2021-22 academic year are now available. Students must be registered for a course. If you would like to request a USF Student I.D. card, please send a jpeg photo to the Program Coordinator, Katy Lahren (katy.lahren@usiouxfalls.edu). Students have needed a student I.D. card in order to borrow inter-library loan items from USF Mears Library, or gain access into academic buildings. When students are on campus, it is expected students carry their USF I.D. card. For some events, students may also benefit from an admissions fee discount to athletic or theatre events. The card also has the student I.D. number listed on the back lower right-hand corner which can be required when working with offices who provide student services. Please be aware that students have to be registered for a class in order for a card to be printed.

Please keep these requirements in mind:

  • Photo:
    • The submitted photo cannot be a copyrighted image, which includes professional photos.
    • The image will be a headshot (mid-torso and above).
    • The use of filters is not allowed on the photo including stickers, colors, or text.
  • Setting:
    • Choose a location that is well lit.
    • Identify an area with a solid background (wall without pictures, side of the house, fence, etc…).
  • Attire:
    • No Hats/Headwear (unless religious)
    • Clothing must not have profane, vulgar, or sexually explicit terms/images
  • Camera:
    • Photo should be taken in landscape orientation
    • Place the camera at eye-level so the picture will be taken straight on.
    • Try to avoid looking up or down at the camera.
    • SMILE 😊 (or at least don’t frown)
    • Face and eyes must be clearly visible

Photos obtained for the purpose of creating a USF Student I.D. card are also uploaded into MyUSF so that the student's picture will appear next to his/her name on the Roster Page for any registered courses. Often times, your card will be mailed to your home once it is printed unless an upcoming program orientation is being planned where it can be distributed.

We also try to provide an opportunity at Graduate Education Orientation Events (May and September) for students to obtain their USF I.D. card.

Your USF Student I.D. Card:

  • has a bar code on the back that can be used for services associated with the Library. If you didn't obtain a USF I.D. card, and you need the bar code on the back of the card in order to borrow an inter-library loan item, please contact the USF Library so temporary accommodations can be made.
  • displays your USF Student I.D. number on the back right-hand corner of the card in case it is needed when requesting student services.
  • provides access into academic buildings on campus after hours.
  • should be activated with the Library at the Front Circulation Desk in Mear's Library.  Most of the time, this is done by the Fredrikson School of Education Office or at Graduate Education Orientation Events.
  • allows access into USF Athletic Events, Plays, Concerts and may qualify students for a student discount. Some exclusions may apply.
  • makes students eligible for a discounted membership at Avera Fitness Center.
There are no Handouts for this set.
